While I still view the requirement for this sort of thread as big girls blouse - what if there was a [ nsfw ] bbcode tag which just hides the image with a toggle link to show/hide?

Random thread could stay random, poor people's unbroken minds could be left unfucked. But at the same time, it's just common sense to NSFW tag something or take what could be in that thread as a gamble. Like paying a hooker who you think has an adam's apple but you're not quite sure and the price is good.

So Oowan, you are basically proposing an <lj-cut> tag for the forums that lets you hide spoiler content of NSFW content behind a tag (clicking on the tag opens a pop up window).

LiveJournal uses that function and so does Icanhascheezburger (they use a default image that when you click on it opens a different link).

I generally will not open the random thread at work "just in case", and when reading it at home I do so mouse in hand ready to close or scroll if sufficiently squicked out.

And yes, basically a spoiler tag which I realise is not something I came up with on my own to be unique to here.

Your third point is my 2nd point - people should take what's in there with a grain of salt.
